Modern Victoriana

I've been loving all the Victoriana looks on the runway and on the High Street so I thought I'd do my own version— a modern take of this period-inspired trend.

To create this outfit, I went for a monochrome palette: a ruffled black blouse styled with tapered white trousers.

There's something about romantic Victorian ruffles teamed with classic tailoring that I find very appealing. I like the look of soft feminine frills mixed with structured workwear essentials. And the contrast between vintage influence and contemporary design ticks all the sartorial boxes for me.

The blouse I'm wearing actually has a Mandarin collar (same as the striped shirt featured in this post.) To offset my black top's long sleeves and trouser pairing, I folded the collar inwards to create a V-neckline and open up the outfit. It's a simple styling trick that I use if I want to instantly update and breathe new life to old garments.
